A LEAP in the right direction.
Due to student progression plans, many school districts currently have hundreds of middle school students who are over-age for middle school, but have not met the requirements for high school. This dynamic creates a variety of social, environmental, and academic challenges for middle school parents, students, teachers, and administrators. It is expected that all of the LEAP students will progress to ninth grade upon mastery of the appropriate academic competencies.
I can work at my own pace and have another chance of making it to high school. - LEAP studentBecause these students have not succeeded in the traditional classroom model, LEAP uses a computer-based, teacher-supported, competency-based educational model to help accelerate the students¹ progression. The software, hardware, textbooks, and other materials have been developed based on years of research regarding student-learning styles. LEAP students have a customized learning path based on their individual learning needs and a 1:1 computer-to-student ratio. Additionally, each classroom of 25 students will have one teacher and one instructional assistant to support them on their learning paths.
