Ohio Distance & Electronic Learning Academy (OHDELA) is the first and only school in the state of Ohio to offer Civil Air Patrol for their students
GREATER AKRON -- The Ohio Distance & Electronic Learning Academy (OHDELA) is excited to be the first and only school in the state of Ohio to offer Civil Air Patrol for their students.
OHDELA is a tuition-free online school for students in grades K-12. It provides Internet-based, live learning sessions instructed by state-certified teachers for students in Ohio under the name of OHDELA. For more information, visit http://thinkdela.com.
Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the volunteer, non-profit auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Its three missions are to develop its cadets, to educate Americans on the importance of aviation and space, and to perform life-saving humanitarian missions. Today's cadets are tomorrow's aerospace leaders. Through its Cadet Program, Civil Air Patrol transforms youth into responsible citizens.
While there are many youth oriented programs in America today, CAP's cadet program is unique in that it uses aviation as a cornerstone. Thousands of young people from 12 years through age 21 are introduced to aviation through CAP's cadet program. The program allows young people to progress at their own pace through a 16-step program including aerospace education, leadership training, physical fitness and character development. Cadets can compete for academic scholarships to further their studies in fields such as engineering, science, aircraft mechanics, aerospace medicine, meteorology, as well as many others. Those cadets who earn cadet officer status may enter the Air Force as an E3 (airman first class) rather than an E1 (airman basic).
Cadets are never obligated to join the military, nor does CAP attempt to recruit cadets for the armed forces. However, the uniform, military customs and courtesies, and drill and ceremonies are important features of cadet life that contribute to individual self-discipline. Moreover, 10 percent of the cadets at the Air Force Academy got their start in CAP.
Each year, cadets have the opportunity to participate in special activities at the local, state, regional or national level. Many cadets will have the opportunity to solo fly an airplane for the first time through a flight encampment or academy. Others will enjoy traveling abroad through the International Air Cadet Exchange Program. Others assist at major air shows throughout the nation.
OHDELA is excited to offer their students the opportunity to join Civil Air Patrol as a way to help prepare them for their future. If the student is dreaming about a career in aviation, space, the military or being a future leader of tomorrow, CAP’s Cadet Program at OHDELA can help!
